2016 Favourite Products | Beauty, Skincare and Makeup

So as 2016 is closing its curtain, and I am making a list of beauty products that I need to repurchase from the Harrods Beauty Hall, I thought this is the perfect opportunity to do a round-up of beauty products that I have been loving during 2016. Some are new discoveries while others are previously loved products which my love for them has been rekindled.

Holiday Gift Set | Laura Mercier Le Petite Souffle Body Cream Collection

I can't believe that this time next week it will actually be Christmas Day! Where has the month or even the year gone?

As it is the last weekend before Christmas, I am pretty sure everywhere you go will be super busy and crowded as people are trying to nail their gifts shopping.

Speaking of gifts, I thought today I'd show you one of the holiday gift sets that I have bought for myself  - I know, very naughty of me.

Favourite Home Scents | The White Company and P.F. Candle Co

It is often believed that the sense of smell is linked to our memories. I genuinely think this must be true. I am sure I am not the only one who have experienced a deja vu of either  transported back to a particular time or place a result of smelling something.

So today, I thought I'd share three of my favourites home scents - two of which have been re-purchased, including one which was shipped directly from the US. If that's not love, I don't know what is?

Why I Can't Resist A Gift with Purchase

Who doesn't love a gift with purchase? I know I do!

As it says on the tin, a gift with purchase is often a brand promotion to encourage consumers to purchase more items, to receive the gift(s). It is often used by brands in the beauty and cosmetics industry. In order to qualify for the gift, one often has to spend either a certain amount, e.g. at least £20 or purchase a particular item, e.g. must include a skin care item or a perfume - just as an example.

Personally, I am a sucker for a gift with purchase. I often make a bee line to the beauty or cosmetic counters as soon as I hear they are having a gift with purchase promotion. So today I thought I'd share three reasons why I can't resist a gift with purchase promotion and why I think you should consider it too.

South of France Travel Guide | Nice, Cannes, Antibes, Eze and Monaco

One of the things that I embrace about being single is that my holidays are not tied to school holidays,  half terms and Easter breaks. As a matter of fact, I generally avoid going away during those period because a) everything is more expensive and b) everywhere is crowded.
So upon realising that my last time off work  was more than two months ago, I thought it's about time that I book a weekend trip to another European city that I have not been - the South of France which is also commonly known as the French Riviera.

The flight from London to Nice takes about two hours and the journey from the airport to central Nice, takes about 15 minutes. For this trip, I flew with BA, but I know EasyJet also flies to Nice.

Throughout this trip, I stayed at the Ellington Hotel which is located in the very central part of Nice and highly accessible to the main high street, shopping areas, attraction sites and the train station.

Bobbi Brown City Collection 25th Year Anniversary Limited Edition

I am certainly having a Bobbi Brown moment at present. For the last two months, I've gone mad with their palette collections and my bank account certainly isn't happy with this recent development.
In case you missed the memo, Bobbi Brown is celebrating its 25th Year Anniversary this year  and let me tell you, they are certainly celebrating it in style, as they should, given 25 years is a big milestone!
To mark this jubilant affair, Bobbi Brown has release a number of collections, but the one that particularly stole by heart is the Bobbi Brown City Collection. (I lied, there is another palette that stole my heart but that's for another day).

Saint Laurent Shopping Tote

I have been in the market for an everyday shopping tote for the longest time ever. I am pretty sure this must be the longest period of wait before I found the right one.

I am a bit of a bagaholic. A bit? Well it's all relative and subjective, right?

Letting Go of My Nikon D5000 DLSR Camera

After years of creating memories together, I finally decided to let go of my trusty Nikon D5000 DLSR camera. It was not an easy decision and it took me a good 6 months to decide.

Bamberg and Wurzburg, Germany

Hello everybody,

I know I have been rather quiet for quite some time. As cliche as this may sound, so much has happened since the last post.

I managed to have a mini breakaway in Germany at the end of May, visited my family in Kuala Lumpur and most recently, my birthday in London.

To kick off, I thought I'll share some of the highlights from my trip to Bamberg, Germany.
Enjoy! x

5 Things I Learned About Leadership

At the end of 2015, I was nominated to be a part of the company's talent management and leadership programme. It was a big achievement for me as at that time I have only been with the company for a year.

I started my leadership journey in the talent management programme earlier this year.

Fortune Favours The Brave Eye Shadow Palette

Do I need another eye shadow palette in my life? Certainly not. Did I still end up buying it? Sure did. Oh well. They say old habits die hard.

There is definitely something about eye shadow palettes. I am so addicted and can't seem to get enough of them. There was a period of time when I stopped buying them, but a few years back, I received the original Urban Decay Naked palette as a birthday gift, which I truly believe is the main cause of the relapsed for my love for eye shadow palettes and addiction.

The Fortune Favours the Brave palette is designed by British Beauty Blogger in collaboration with Make Up Revolution London. Personally, I have never used nor own any make up products from Make Up Revolution. But upon seeing this particular palette on social media, I knew it is one that I needed to add to my already bursting eye shadow palettes collection.

Why It's So Important to Vote?

5th of May and the 23rd of June are the two keys dates for London and UK residents this year.
The London Mayoral election will take place tomorrow and in just over a month after that the UK referendum election will take place.

I personally take my voting duties very seriously and bar two occasions, I have not missed the opportunity to cast my vote during an election. The two occasions when I could not vote was before I live in the UK. I was away from my home country at that time and postal voting was not an option to me to exercise my duties.

This post is not to preach who you should vote for - as that's entirely your choice. However, given that we will decide on two key matters this year, I thought I would share three reasons why I think voting is important.

Kaprun, Austria | My First Ski Trip

I have always wanted to give skiing a go, but was never organise enough to plan it well in advanced. As such, season in, season out, a few years down the road, I still have not hit the slopes. *roll eyes*
But this year I was very determined to make it happen and finally booked a ski trip during the first week of April. I's a late and one that is towards the end of the season. But better now than having to wait another season, I thought.

Oh boy, I sure am glad I did it!

I have to say that I didn't know what to expect. I wasn't particularly over excited nor was I very nervous.

I didn't put such high expectations on myself. I thought I'll start small and hope for the best. I'll be happy if I could stand more than falling my bum.

My Personal Experience with Armani Maestro Glow Foundation

If you have read my previous post, you would know that I was on the hunt for a new foundation to be used during the Spring/Summer season. I have never used any of the beauty range from Giorgio Armani before, and I know that they have been upping their game in the beauty department. When the Maestro Glow foundation was launched at the beginning of 2016, I thought THIS IS IT! This is THE product that I want to try from this brand.

Laura Mercier | 5 Products That I Love

Hello my lovelies. I hope all of you are having a fantastic Easter weekend and eating loads of chocolates.

Easter is one of my favourite holidays. It signifies so many things. The kick start of a new season. The days are getting longer and more importantly, it is the first proper  holiday period since Christmas.

On the beauty front, Easter tends to be the time when I get itchy to start painting my nails with those beautiful pastel colours. Damn you mini-eggs! It is also the time when I start to rejig beauty products that I use on a daily basis, which leads nicely to what I am about to write in this post.

Roux at The Landau, London

The name Michel Roux Jr. is synonym to the Le Gavroche, a two-Michelin starred restaurant in London. If you are an avid follower of the UK Master Chef TV series, you'll be familiar with the French-English chef too.

I have yet to experience the gastronomical delights at the Le Gavroche but it certainly is on my ever expanding to-do list! I can imagine what the experience will be like given how I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Roux at The Landau recently. I enjoyed it so much that I went again in the space of a few weeks!

New In #3 - Beauty Products, Beauty Tools and a Dyptique Candle

So one Friday evening, after work, I decided to venture into Harrods Beauty Hall. I thought it was a good time to go as Harrods is usually swamped with people - mainly tourists- during the weekend. After all, I really needed to replenish the Bobbi Brown Burnt Red lipstick, which I have been loving since September last year.

And as you can already tell from the photo, I came home with more than just the said  lipstick! So typical and unsurprising!

So in addition to the Bobbi Brown Burnt Red lipstick, here are the run down of all the other unplanned (but worthy!) purchases.

Improving Productivity | Doing More by Doing Less

Hello everybody! Apologies that I missed a post last weekend. I had a cold and wasn't up to do anything, but thankfully I managed to shake it off and I am well now.

Today I wanted to write about a few minor steps that I have taken over the years, which I feel have helped me to do more things that are more life enriching. I am not saying that you have to follow these steps, because as we know, everyone has different priorities.

Christmas / New Year's Purchases

December is definitely my most favourite month of the year. There is something about the feeling leading up to Christmas that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

And then Christmas arrived and I hope I am not the only one feeling 'Ok, now what?' But let's not be deflated because of course we have the Boxing Day sales to look forward to.

When I first moved to London, I would go crazy during the sales but as the years go by (and I guess I become older and wiser) I don't go crazy during the sales anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still buy stuff during the sales, I mean come on, who doesn't love bargain hunting, right? Instead I just become a wiser and more selective shopper.

So as we approach the end of January when most of the sales have ended or all the good stuff have been snapped, I thought I'd do a quick post about what I purchased from the sales.

My Fitness Journey

My Fitness Journey

I cannot believe I just typed those three words as the title of this post. It's mad!

Growing up, I was not an active child and it’s kind of bizarre to think that now I have a fitness routine that I look forward to every week, truly enjoy and something that I have successfully done on a continual basis. As always, new year brings new hopes, new plans and renewed resolutions, I thought I'd share a few pointers that led me to this fitness journey.

1. Try Different Things

Let’s face it. You are not going to do something that you don’t enjoy, are you? So it’s important that you find one or a few activities that you truly enjoy. Enjoyment is one of the things that would lead to repeat behaviour. And if you are like me, (i.e. inactive as a child), as much as I hate to break this to you, you may have to start from ground zero because you have no idea what you would enjoy. You need to conquer the mental block and try EVERYTHING even if you think you may not like it because you never know, you may surprise yourself. From my experience, I never thought that I would enjoy running so much so that I ended up participating in at least a few 5km runs back in 2014. I thought I was in love with yoga until I braved myself and joined the pilates class at the gym. My love for pilates grows even more after I tried a session using the reformer – which honestly, it does look like a torture piece of equipment. Boot camp was a phrase that I was very afraid of until I joined a trial session at the park opposite my flat and dare I say, I actually missed it when we had two weeks break during the Christmas and New Year period!

2. Invest in a Personal Trainer (PT)

Yes, they are expensive hence why I used the word ‘invest’. As much as I hate to admit it, sometimes we do need to pay other people to tell us what to do, to push and motivate us beyond what we think we are capable of. Furthermore, how often have we started the day with the best intention of going to the gym after work, and it remained as intention because something better came out (e.g. think about those ad-hoc after work drinks) or you had the worst day of your life that all you want to do is shut the computer down and go home? This is when having a PT helps as the PT will make you commit to a routine/schedule.

If you cannot afford or not willing to spend on PT (read: me!!), joining an exercise group can reduce the cost a bit. These could be a running club, a boot camp or a local fitness group. Whilst you may not get the full 1-2-1 attention, you will still get guidance from the fitness instructor. It is also worth discussing options with a PT because sometimes they are willing to reduce the rate slightly if you come with another friend.

3. Location, location, location

Personally, this is a key factor for me. Commuting an hour just to get to the gym is not going to be motivating for me, not to mention, the best use of my time. When choosing which gym/ classes to join, first you need to roughly work out your planned exercise schedule. Is it going to be before or after work? Weekdays or weekend only or a combination of both? If you think you are going to exercise after work and during weekdays only, perhaps it’s best to join a gym or class that is near your office where you can easily get to before or after work. If you prefer the weekend, then somewhere near home would be more sensible. I do a mixture of both – I do pilates during the week and the centre is two minutes away from my office and my boot camp session is either on Wednesday evening or Saturday morning and it is held at the park near my flat.

These are the three things that have worked for me so far. And if you are planning to improve your fitness level or if you are already active and want to up your game in 2016, I hope these are helpful. For those who are still thinking and talking about it, my suggestion is JUST START! As Nike said 'Just Do It'!

Good luck. x

2016 Goals

I of course had planned to write about this on the very first day of the year just like everyone else. Alas, I was defeated! On the eve of New Year's eve, I caught a stomach bug which lasted for 4 days and before I knew it, the first working Monday was upon me. Anyway, let's not dwell further on the past and focus on the future shall we?
