The One Beauty Item That I Can't Live Without - Foundation

Each of us has one beauty item that we can't live without and that item is often personal and unique to the said individual. Because, no two people are the same, and more importantly, we all have different needs.

It got me thinking recently about what is the one item that I consistently have in my beauty stash? A must have to make me feel human, complete, finished, ready to face the world and doesn't make me feel naked when I leave the house.

For some, it could be a mascara, and for others, it could be a lipstick. For me, it's the foundation. It definitely is a must have for me and no matter how late I am, and how desperate I needed to dash out the door, I have to put on the foundation and get my base done.

So today, I thought I would share the four foundations that I currently have in my beauty drawer. While there is one firm favourite, I do reach out for different ones depending on the finished look that I am after, how my skin feels at that particular moment and the season of the year.

So here are my top four favourites at the moment, starting with my firm favourite!

1. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place FoundationThis is a medium-to-full coverage matte finish formula. It is long-wearing, lasts all day even in humid weather. I have tested it during my holiday to visit my family in Malaysia, where the temperature sore to about 37 degrees Celsius and the humidity was insane. In addition, this is the foundation that I pretty much used throughout the Summer months that just past. It contains SPF 10, not the highest protection, but I always put a separate sun protection as part of my skincare routine anyway. So the low protection doesn't bother me at all.

2. Estee Lauder Double Fresh Water Make-up FoundationThe latest addition to Estee Lauder foundation family, one could say that this is the sister of the Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation. It claims to be as long wearing as the Double Wear Stay-in-Place formula but it has a more fluid consistency given its formula is water-based. It is light, more suited for the no-makeup, makeup look and it comes with a higher sun protection - SPF 30 - compared to the sister version. Given it's only a recent addition, I have yet to give this foundation a full test, but I am looking forward to using it as we are truly into the Autumn season now, where the weather becomes colder and there is less humidity. It is also the season when I start to go for the dewy, glowy look, instead of the flat-matte look.

3. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation This is a classic and a firm favourite amongst beauty bloggers. You may well have read how my skin reacted to the Giorgio Armani Maestro Glow Foundation (if not here's the link), so this was a substitute I purchased to use up the store credit that I had. Much to my delight, it doesn't flare up my skin and has the most amazing consistency. It simply glides onto the skin on application and true to its name, feels like a silk material is gliding onto the skin. I tend to reach out for this when I want a soft, smooth, luminous look, or when my skin feels a little dull. The formula definitely helps to correct and unify the complexion for an instant glowing look.

4. Clinique Superbalanced Silk FoundationClinique is without a doubt the brand that I have had the longest relationship with. I used to use the Superbalanced Foundation so when they created a new formula with silk infused to its iconic Superbalanced family, I had to give it a try. This is the perfect formulation for me given that I have combination skin - normal on the cheeks and slightly oily on the T-zone. And this is when the Superbalanced formulation comes into play. It controls oil and hydrates the skin where needed. It's clever like that. It works exactly how I remember the classic version of the Superbalanced foundation worked, lasts all day with no sight of oily shiny T-zone at the end of the day. It blends well and the coverage is buildable as needed. Similar to the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation, it glides very easily onto the skin, just like you're applying silk onto the skin.

So there you have it. The one beauty item that I can't live without and the four different versions that I use on a rotation basis.

What about you? What is your must-have beauty item? Do share it here as I am keen to know. x
